Christmas in New York is always a spectacular and wonderful time. Santas on every street corner, the gigantic tree at Rockfellar Centre, decorations throughout the city and shopping at places like Bloomingdales and FAO Swartz toy store make the magic of Christmas come alive.
Radio City Music Hall is the host of the Rockette's Christmas spectacular, complete with the precision dancing of the Rockette's, New York's most famous dance troupe, ice skaters, dancing teddy bears and all the magic of the season coming to life onstage. But, there's another show playing that should be given equal consideration if you want to celebrate the season in a theatrical way: This will be the final year for "A Christmas Carol", the musical of Dicken's classic Christmas story about the transformation of miser, Ebeneezer Scrooge. Jim is known for his recordings of all five Harry Potter Books in audio format. (Jim has won several awards for his audio works). Jim is known in Broadway circles for playing the title role in the musical, "Barnum", a role that earned him a Tony award. Other Broadway and off Broadway credits include: Scapino Joe Egg Me and My Girl Candide The Taming of the Shrew The Music Man and many others Also appearing in films, including "Pete's Dragon" and several of the British "Carry On" series of films. The most recent in a cast of numerous past Scrooges (including Tim Curry, Tony Roberts, Hal Linden, Roddy McDowell, Tony Randall and others). Dicken's "A Christmas Carol" is possibly the best known Christmas tale of our time. Who hasn't seen some version of this classic tale come to life as we followed the transformation of miserly Ebenezer Scrooge. The basic premise in the story, that there's good in everyone, is a timeless moral of hope perfect for the Christmas season's committment to peace, joy, hope, and love. New York's "A Christmas Carol" is currently the only version of Dicken's piece running on stage.
