Turning Minuses Into Plusses

me off of MP3.com whenever I stay there too long, so I have learned to cut and paste a lot of my data instead of trying to type it in real time. You know the questions beforehand, so write down your answers, minimize them at the bottom of your screen and paste them in as needed. I find that it is sometimes a good idea to save each page and log off then log back on and edit later to save having to go through the process all over again.

In my case, I have found that saving my music to my hard drive before burning CDs is much faster and more efficient than taking one track at a time off of my master. Your software may have a similar quirk, so try this if it seems that you are having problems making your own CDs the other way.

You can’t know too much about your computer when it comes to music. New programs and add-ons are constantly becoming available, and it makes you more valuable as a co-writer to keep abreast of all the new technology, since many of us would rather pay someone else to do things for us so we can focus on our composition. You may find, though, that the more you know, the more money you can save by doing things on your own. Many of my writing friends have found that, because of the new technology, they have far more creative freedom than ever before, due to the fact that losing a job and being short of cash, losing a band, their label or computer data, that they were forced to learn how to do things on their own. As a result, they became better writers and/or performers, since they were able to pick themselves up after adversity and make the best of whatever position they found themselves in. You can too—just take the effort and paint that silver lining on that dark cloud that threatens to rain on your musical life.
