More Weird Love Song IdeasMORE WEIRD LOVE SONG IDEAS Well, most of us know that there are many types of love. There are also a lot of different types of love songs. If you find, like many of us do, that your love songs are falling into the same themes and words over and over like bad blues tunes, perhaps you need to sit and think a little before just forcing pen to paper. Sometimes a good start is to just think about what love is to you. Not even just standard physical love, which is always great to write about, but getting a little more specific and getting a little weird with it. Hey, having fun is what it's all about, anyway, right? OKAY, NOT STEAMY MONKEY LOVE, BUT.... Many really fun songs have been written about body parts, or fun things people do to each other without getting more than PG-rated about it. What do you like about your person? Many people write about the way people toss their head, do the twist, raise just one eyebrow, wink, or that cute little hitch in their stride when they walk. Maybe it's those really weird eyeballs-some people have written about eyes that are bloodshot, full of tears, two-toned, purple or even someone having one a different color than the other. Sure, people have hair, and it often is soft, but what about loving someone's frizzies, buzz cut, dreadlocks, or the fact that they still love them even if they lost all their locks to chemo? Maybe it's the way they tickle you when you don't expect it, or kiss you twice every time you leave, even if it is just up the street for sodas at the corner store. Maybe it's just watching the same video for the umpteenth time together just for an excuse to check out the special effects. I bet your experience treasure chest is just full of tidbits you forgot about until just now, but are quickly jotting down now that you've been jogged a bit-go for it! THERE ARE LOTS OF OTHER TYPES OF LOVE Some really great hits have been written about love that isn't physical at all. "Butterfly Kisses," "Enter Sandman," and "The Ocean" come to mind-parental love is always something others can relate to even if they have no kids of their own. "Wildfire" is about a horse, but still chokes horsey gals like me up when we hear it. People have written great songs about their dog, their hunting buddy, the guys in the band, a sibling that they were close to, or even a favorite mentor or special stranger that touched them somehow-"Freebird," "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp," "Spoonman," and "Mr. Bo Jangles" are the ones that I can name just off the top of my head. Some of us still crack up listening to "Weird Al" Yankovic's various songs about food, and I'm sure there is a hit out there waiting for someone doing an ode to their mom's apple pie, and how special it was when she made it for the family. One of the biggest tearjerkers I've ever heard was "The Red Shoes" around Christmastime-that song about a stranger giving a kid enough money to pay for the shoes he wanted for his dying mom is a killer. Christians have been putting songs about Jesus' love for us onto paper for a long time, and I'm sure that after "The Passion," a lot of folks see that in a very real way that will probably make for some great songwriting for a few years to come, yet.
