Giraffes can eat leaves off treetops, and evolved to fill this needed niche in savannah life. You should always feel that you can reach goals, time and time again, and know that your source of income is really out there, if you keep reaching and finding things that others can't get to that you and your unique combination of talents were destined to discover. The trick is to hone your skills in leaf finding and thorn dodging, and be willing to take a few pokes and scrapes to get what you want, goals-wise.

So be a little silly next time you feel stuck as a songwriter, and think of yourself as a giraffe. I keep a small stuffed one next to my computer peeking out from some pictures of me playing in my old band, just to make me smile and remember that I've done it before, and can again. We all can, provided we get our courage up and dare to stick our necks out.

The important thing is to keep moving, keep writing, and make it fun.
