Grease Is The Word

It's been over twenty years since it's release in 1978, but you can be assured, Grease is STILL the word. Adapted from the broadway musical, it continues to touch fans of all ages.

Grease is the largest grossing musical film in history. When it debuted in 1978 in theaters around the world, it pulled in over $340 million dollars in box office sales. The album, which most of us owned first as an LP, has sold over 20 million copies - and has been on the Billboards pop charts for more than 250 consecutive weeks. Who can resist such classics as Olivia Newton-John's "Hopelessly Devoted to You" or John Travolta's "Sandy"? It was the album that brought Sha-Na-Na to newly recognized stardom and re-introduced Frankie Avalon to America's teenagers.

Grease - the story of love found, love lost, and love found again. All set in glorious 1959. The film starred John Travolta as Danny - rebel and leader of the T-Birds. Olivia Newton-John as Sandy, wholesome, sweet and Danny's summer love. As the movie begins, the two who found romance at an ocean resort are saying good-bye. The summer has come to an end, Danny is going back to Rydell High and Sandy and her family are Australia bound. But with a simple twist of fate, Sandy gets to stay and surprise; she is on her way to Rydell as well - unbeknownst to Danny, whose friends think he is too cool for a pure chick like her. And so the story begins ... 110 minutes of dance-offs, fast cars, young romance and unforgettable music.

The film boasted quite a cast. In addition to Travolta and Newton-John, Grease starred future Taxi star Jeff Conaway as Kinickie - future Empty Nest star, Dina Manoff as Marty - movie and television star Stockard Channing as Rizzo - theater star Barry Pearl as Doody - future Renegade star Lorenzo Lamas as Tom - future Shining Time Station star Didi Conn as Frenchy - veteran actors Sid Caesar as Coach Calhoun - Eve Ardin as Principal McGee - Frankie Avalon as the teen angel - Joan Blondell as Vi - Edd Byrnes star of 77 Sunset Strip as Vince Fontaine.

Grease is bigger than ever on Broadway, still dazzling audiences. The production has starred such cast members as Brooke Shields, Jeff Conaway, Debbie Gibson, Lucy Lawless, Adrian Zmed, Rosie O'Donnell, and Joe Piscopo.
