Garth Brooks has fast become the biggest selling artist in U.S. history and has given the 90's a musical jump-start. His album sales broke records set by Elvis, The Beatles and Michael Jackson. Voted artist of the decade by the Academy of Country Music, Garth has made monumental changes in country music - and opened doors for the artists who have followed him. Dozens of awards have been bestowed upon him and he has set new standards for the music industry. How could one man do so much for the music world? It was easy ...

Country music sensation, Troyal Garth Brooks was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, February 7, 1962. The youngest of six kids, he grew up in modest surroundings. Surprisingly enough, it wasn't until he entered college that he found his desire for music - a desire that was at first unsupported by his parents. While in college, Garth earned extra money by working as a bouncer in local clubs. It was at one of these clubs that he met his future wife; Sandy Mahl while breaking up a fight that had commenced between her and two other ladies in the restroom.

Mr. Brooks has made it clear that his number one musical influence is Country Music giant, George Strait. Although he grew up listening to a variety of music genres - everything from James Taylor to KISS - it was the music of George Strait that made Garth realize he was destined to make a mark on the country scene. His music is an obviously reflection of the country/rock influences that have are easily recognized as the "Garth Sound". Determined to become a great music artist and make his hometown proud, he headed to Nashville to fulfill a dream.

A dream that sent him back to Oklahoma to continue playing gigs in honkytonks with his band, Stillwater. His first attempt at stardom, had failed, and Garth almost hung up his hat. Capitol Records turned him down, and he headed home. But lucky for music lovers all over the world, he came back for more. In 1988 Garth walked into Nashville's Bluebird Café and graced the stage. Things from that point on would never be the same. The executives at Capitol Records gave him a second audition and soon rocketed him into a career that has forever changed the face of country music.

Garth recorded his first album, and on March 25th, 1989, his first single "Much Too Young Too Feel This Damn Old" hit the airwaves. Eventually, the song reached No. 8 on the charts. The followup single, "If Tomorrow Never Comes" sent Garth's record sales through the roof, and within 8 months, he had sold more than a quarter million copies of his debut, self-titled album. But it was the "The Dance" that sent Garth into superstardom.
