Beethoven's Tenth Symphony?Although this look into the mind of Beethoven is quite fascinating, it is still safe to say that he wrote only nine complete symphonies. The fact that a first movement could be constructed from the thousands of existing sketches is an amazing feat within itself. If Beethoven would have lived for a few more years, we might very well have had a Tenth Symphony, and this article would have been about his sketches for the Eleventh! We DO have complete works from near the end of his life, though, and they are worth a listen, especially the late piano sonatas and string quartets. These works, along with the first movement of the Tenth, show the true genius of a composer that continues to influence composers and musicians to this very day.
