January has many events that are worthy of spotlighting. I have chosen the following sites to round out this month's timely events due to the fact that on January 30th, I will be featuring some Blues and Jazz for Black History Month which is celebrated in America in the month of February.
This article will include the following: Guion Bluford: The first black astronaut. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: This is his birthday month! Chinese New Year: It begins on January 26th and ends in February. Miscellaneous Stuff: Some goodies! All you have to do is click on any of the above links and it will "quick-jump" you to the links. I hope you enjoy the great sites that I found while researching material for this article. Now enough for the intro, let's get down to "bidness!". This is a nice tribute page to Guion Bluford. It has some personal history of Dr. Bluford, plus some background information on the historical launch. Here is a great book that you might like to purchase, that will provide some in-depth information about this great Black American. For a child oriented learning experience, the Star Child is a wonderful project and a very nice site. Here is a site that offers a picture to color and a nice lesson on Guion Bluford. It would go nicely with this song written by David Saphra. If you would like to see the lyrics, they can be found at David's site. For information on other Black American Astronauts, this Nasa page is a great resource. Quotes from African Decent could easily be used in the music class. Take a quote or two and add a melody and you have yourself a song. Be sure and check this page out because there are some wonderfully clever and thought-provoking quotes here. Here's a sample: Stupidity doesn't kill you but it makes you sweat. Family Fun Magazine celebrates Chinese New Year! There are so many fun things to do at this site that I decided to spotlight a few assorted links. Take for instance this page, featuring the game, Rock, Paper, Scissors or how about this great page, Sound Safari or maybe you'd like to have some fun with this music activity at the Making Instruments page. Not enough fun, yet? Well, then breeze on over to this page, which is a bulletin board full of ideas for the gifted and talented. I'm not through yet. Here is an education page that's made for creative fun-making. This site is impressive, to say the least. Go To Page: 1 2
