Since many of us music teachers will be on a holiday break for the remainder of December, I thought it would be nice to point you to some sites that will start your next semester off nicely. Generally, the first week we are off, we are all so busy scurrying around trying to get last-minute presents, preparing for trips or visitors that will be dropping by, and getting ready for holiday parties that we hardly have time to sit down, let alone surf the Web. Just bookmark these sites and save them for that more peaceful week that follows Christmas or precedes the New Year. When we network with other teachers, we become stronger in spirit and in resources. May these sites be gifts to you that will continue to enrich your teaching experiences for years to come.
Another great site is Music Is . . .. It has information that will reinforce what the value of music education is in schools. The author of this web site says, "It seems to me that the very essence of music is the expression of the self." You will be amazed at the dedication to music that this site exudes. The really great thing about this site is that the author is a parent, not a certified teacher. Being a parent, I'm sure he is a "teacher" as well. This site, called The Music Education Launch Site, offers great interactive involvement for the music educator. It also offers some software called "Mr. Note." Jeff's site has long-standing web presence and it's easy to say how he can call his site a "Launch" site. It's a springboard to some valuable and helpful music classroom resources. Great job, Jeff. Music Education Resource Links has many diverse links. At this site you will be able to access a variety of documents describing what students should know and be able to do in the arts are available on-line through Artswire and MENC. The document, "The School Music Program: A New Vision," is intended for everyone who is interested in the quality of music instruction in America's schools. Understanding relationships between music, the other arts, and disciplines outside the arts 9. Go To Page: 1 2
