United through Music!

"Multicultural education is a transformative movement in education which produces critically thinking, socially active members of society. It is not simply a change of curriculum or the addition of an activity. It is a movement which calls for new attitudes, new approaches, and a new dedication to laying the foundation for the transformation of society."

Such an introduction is what you will find at the Multicultural Pavilion. They have some splendid ideas for voicing and exhibiting your support of teaching multicultural education, should someone ever question why it's important.

The Multicultural Pavilion is a great place to start if you want information on other countries' music for upcoming lessons. There's a wonderful selection of various topics, one of them being Children's Literature. Also, don't miss out on the activities archive page. It will provide you with some good concepts to be sure and cover when you are teaching a multicultural lesson.

On the links page at the Multicultural Pavilion, I found something interesting about a program called One World, Our World, or 1WOW that's worth reading. While you are at the 1WOW site, don't miss the student activity and comments page. There is a request from this group for your help in contributing lyrics and melodies. It's a worthy cause. Check it out.

Now, on to some other multicultural music sites.

Here's a good deal for you! It's "Sing-Out!" for only $4.95 a year for issues of folk songs. It was founded by Pete Seeger. You can't get a more reputable endorsement than that!

Another really good site with lots of links is Multicultural Choral Music. Be sure and get ready to spend some time here as it has many interesting sites in which to peruse. Enjoy!
