Music Libraries around the World

Quite possibly when using these resources you will find that you need to TELNET the materials you desire. Basically, what my articles point to are World Wide Web sites, but some of these links may lead you into tapping into areas of the Internet, which will require a bit of knowledge on Telnet, Finger, and Gophers. I haven't had to do that for several years. Since my skills are rusty, this page has some good instructions for telnetting. In fact, for a good overview of Internet Researching tools, etc. go to the University of Toronto.

Here's a great site for Australian Folk Songs. Excellent resources include the midi version of songs such as A Thousand Mile Away which also has downloadable sheet music and lyrics. You can't beat this site for convenience and resources. And here I was thinking that Waltzing Matilda and Kookaburra were the best Australian children's songs around. There is also some information offered about each of the songs. If you are looking for pre-packaged ready to go lessons, this site is for you. I can hear you now, Ah gee, this is too easy, I wanted to do it the hard way. NOT! ;-)

The English Server has many extremely interesting articles and sound files. How's this for something different? "Perception of Music and Dimensional Complexity of Brain Activity". There's even more helpful information about the Justly tuned Guitar or the The Gregorian Chant Page. There are many more topics from which to choose. Check this site out. You won't be disappointed.

Other Links of Interest

Where the Wild Things are. Terrific Site!

This Swiss site offers over 40,000 International songs. You will need to know the composer's name or the song title that you want to search.

French Ministry of Culture Some of this site is in French but if you are wanting a good translation program, try this site: Globalink.

English, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese Songs? Go to XIME´S "LYRICS OF SONGS" Lyrics only, no music.

These libraries are not all music related but there is a decent list of links that offer some very interesting libraries on the Internet.

Next week's article was suggested by a member of Suite 101. Multi-cultural music and dances. Merci, Danke and hasta despues!
