More Musicians for Kids! Part II

His treatment of "Flight of the Bumblebees" is stunning (no pun intended) and the range of his voice displayed in "Blackbird" is awesome. Another fun thing that this master improviser does is thump his chest, during the clip of "Don't Worry, Be Happy". He's a real inspiration for teaching the students that it's ok to take chances when you are creating art.

Strangely and sadly enough, information on Tom Glazer was scarce. This Tom Glazer link was the only one that I was able to find, after four different attempts to dig up information on him. In order to have something about Mr. Glazer, as promised, I used some information offered from him in, "Tom Glazer's Treasury of Songs for Children," songbook.

Tom says, "Most authorities agree that the nucleus of interest in and response to music is rhythm first; on the authority of children themselves, this is quite true. Very young babies will often respond with their bodies to rhythmic music, leading their parents mistakenly to interpret such response as an indication of special talent. It is however, to the greatest good to provide a musical environment from the earliest age, a truism which, like beneficial tonics, should be repeated regularly."

Since this article, David Saphra and Tom Glazer's son, Peter, have sent me enough information to create a page for Tom. Here is the link that offers you a bio, pictures and links to more Tom Glazer resources. Thanks to both of these guys for helping out.

Until next week, have a wonderfully creative time in class and in life.
