As teachers, we are constantly thinking of ways to treat our students and I would assume that generally means keeping stocked up on "Jolly Ranchers" or the like. But, as we all know, with just a little extra preparation AND perhaps a little "moo-la" too, we can treat our students (and ourselves) to some exciting interactive software. My picks, as of this article, are fun AND educational. Software for Teaching Music - Part OneMusic Instruction Software
This site is in the process of a move, so some of the links may not function but one of the links, (out of many) that I especially liked is Ear Training Software which is a program covering the basics, such as note reading, aural recognition, chords, and musical terms. There is a downloadable demo of the program and an online demo written in Java. Music Link Music Link is a download bonanza and not to be missed! Wow!
What don't they offer is more to the point!Musicianship Basics Musicianship Basics is an interactive music tutorial designed by music teachers. Who would know better what our needs are than us pedagogues? Also this software offers 50 graded activities which cover basic music skills for students of all ages in their first two years of training. This is a very nice site which lets you see what the software looks like on your screen AND you can download a demo to find out exactly how this software will fit within your lesson plans. Drop by for a visit, and if your browser is java capable, play the game online, you won't be disappointed.
Jump! Music This site lets you hear a song of the week and it spotlights a jazz great! Herbie Hancock! Plus you'll be given the opportunity to ask "the teacher" a question and see some great products, such as:
The Piano Discovery System and the Song Factory, plus a whole lot more. And soon there's gonna be a jukebox! This is a very well designed site. Dissidents Home (land-o-doggies) That's dissidents, not dissonanceThis is not necessarily considered an educator's site, but I couldn't resist it. It is delightfully entertaining with bits of wry humor here and there, plus you get to download some software, which is of course what I was trying to stay focused on while at the site.
