Granted, this article is a little off of the beaten path of Music Education, but as I have said in past articles, a good teacher knows how to make a lesson (or an article) out of just about anything, so I'm using that statement as a "back-up." Herein the point lies:
- It is my belief that if we are to successfully interact with our students, it will serve us well to know ourselves. How do I learn, why do I learn best that way, what are my attitudes, am I open-minded enough to learn from ALL sources? But if we truly know ourselves, then chances are we are also going to see where our defects lie as well. Hopefully this article will help educators take a personal inventory and come to terms with those dark and dusty areas that need to be dealt with in order to be the most effective teacher they can be. After all, being truly openminded is a neverending process of learning and it is my hope that these links offer something that will contribute to all of us in furthering the knowledge of ourselves.
