So you're worried that the students are going to forget everything that you struggled so hard to teach them in theory over the break? Never fear, the internet lessons are here! Point your budding musicians to these sites and you'll have a built-in teacher's aide working for you while you are at home resting! Ahhhh. :-)
For the fidgety students that are constantly drumming with their pencils on the desk tops, point them to this site. I thought the title above sounded pretty funny after having read some of these drummer jokes. Bill Powelson's School of Drums is a great site for beginners on the drums. On the page entitled Practicing the Beat, Bill Powelson offers some of the basic beats used in various styles of music, such as slow rock, blues and swing. I found that the drum charts are simple to follow and a student's eyes can be trained to read these charts by offering multi-level body percussion charts. focuses on blues and Jazz The song Kool Breeze Cafe is one of the sample lesson at JazClass. On this page, Michael Furstner teaches you how to read notes, then he takes you through the steps of how to improvise and offers you a tune for practicing your rhythms and chords. This site is for beginners, intermediates and advanced students. He offers lessons in scales & chords in all key signatures. Some of them can be quite challenging. It's a fun site and should be a wonderful resource for the general music teacher.
This site should be a trumpet player's delight. Trumpet Players Online offers lessons, trumpet links, trumpet sound files, trumpet articles, general music links and a lot more. It's got some sections that are under construction too that sound very promising in regards to proper exercises that stretch the embouchure, developing muscles in the fingers and breathing. This site has a little of everything for the musician. There is a trophy room, picture of the month, and a section called Instruments for Sale and Wanted. Even though several sections are under construction, there is still enough here to warrant a visit from trumpet buffs and the like. Another good site for trumpet players is Bflat Music Productions The use of B flat in the title is only speaking of the note Bflat and not referring to how one should play in general. ;-) Piano on the Net is a wonderful site that teaches music theory lessons and then offers a test for the learner at the end of the sequence. You'll need the QuickTime plugin for this site Go To Page: 1 2
