Spring is here and the "natives" (students) are restless! So what better time than to bring out the arsenal in hyperactive activities? All kidding aside, I have found that boys and girls are anxious for school to be out for the summer when the birds start singing and the sun is out with that delicious spring-like smell in the air. This is the best time of the year for getting the music games going in full gear.

Some of the best sites that I have found for wonderful interactive fun are featured this week. And these sites are also some of the biggest industries in the business world!

Warner Bros. has a great Karaoke songbook. They have their fantastic Looney Tune characters on the pages with the lyrics and the RealAudio plugin serves up the tunes! The words to some of the tunes, you will be able to find here.

The Domino Drum in the music room at the Fun Centre is cool, too. Their audio is not streamed but if you leave the audio control panels with the sound already loaded then you can play all sorts of sounds one right after the other. Give it a try and while you're there, browse through the song list. You'll find some real dandies here.

Mr. Stix' lyrics page was neato too. Even though these songs don't have audio to accompany them, there is a great sampling of standard children songs and some others that I hadn't heard of. Some of the songs include the likes of:

  • Mairzey Doats
  • Never Smile at a Crocodile
  • The Rattlin' Bog
  • Sandwiches
  • The Unicorn
  • The Wheels on the Bus
  • Waltzing With Bears

Walt Disney has a sing-along section that is a wealth of resources for the music teacher and frazzled parent as well. My favorite page at this site is the download page. The list is incredible, with songs all the way from "Satchmo" singing the "Bare Necessities" to the "Ballad of Davy Crockett". There are some recent hits offered in .wav and .aiff files, such as:

  • Hakuna Matata
  • Colors of the Wind

Another unexpected and awesome find was a site Danman's Music Library. You can find lyrics to 8,000 songs here. Not all of them are child-oriented but if you have the time to browse, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Thats all for now, but I'll be covering more "Spring-oriented" songs and lessons next week, so check back with me.
