18th CENTURY MUSEUMS by Mary Haegele

The Chateau Versailles Museum has a marvellous collection of French furniture and portraits. There are over 5,000 pieces of furniture and objets d'art in this museum, many from the 18th century.

Of course no museum worth the name would be without a quilt or two from the 18th century. But the Museum for Textiles in Toronto, Canada collects from 35 countries around the world - textiles from the 18th century onward. This includes quilts, rugs and clothing with a history of each item.

There are many more websites to explore with 18th century artifacts. This article has been only an introduction to this enormously collectible area and the museums that maintain our heritage for us.
