Courage To Change The Things I Can

Would you go?
Mind you ...it may give you a gentle nudge if I tell you that if you refuse you will go to jail, or lose the kids entirely or die. Even worse than that I could just let you drift along as you are now in the agony of addiction with no direction home. We could approach it like multiple choice. "Here are your choices ....pick the best option." Some would choose death. Sometimes people choose jail. At Lucinda the women have chosen change in a productive and creative environment, where art is one of the many catylsts for healing and transformation. God Grant Me The Serenity. God has never promised us complete serenity, only that we will come to understand the meaning of the word and that we will know peace. Art at Lucinda is a peaceful process. It is quiet, organised and relaxed with hopefully no distractions. The teaching preparation is focused on the environment itself and not on the women. There is a mural that has been 'in progress' now for two years. It is designed to help establish the 'habit of creativity'. The women witness patience, discipline, dedication and committment. They are not necessarily expected to partake in the painting of the mural - rather - they can if they wish or alternatively may prefer to watch it evolving quietly around them. They are not taught art - rather - they are provided with the materials and assisted with technique when asked. They are free to explore what ever avenue occurs to them and are able to access the art materials and area whenever they wish, so long as other activities are not scheduled. Artistic expression is designed to be a natural part of their healing process and a safe avenue for exploration and self expression. There are rules about respect and personal boundaries so that all are allowed to feel safe and supported.
