The room is covered floor to ceiling with the wonderful world of Pooh. Pooh and friends are on the walls and on the vaulted ceiling. A cloud filled sky scene. When you turn the lights off the ceiling becomes a glow in the dark starry night.

How wonderful is that? How dreamy would it be as the comfortable child drifts off to sleep?

Children need an environment which allows them to be

• naturally curious and creative
• responsive to story, to see story and to relive and to retell story and then to invent story
• responsive to visual stimuli (mobiles, colour, movement)
• explorative and playful without undue restraints (such as criticism, unnecessary limits)
• surrounded by an abundance of color and simple designs
• challenged by an environment which provides wonder, discovery and experience.

  The challenge is to keep wonder alive for children, to establish environments where children can discover for themselves and to provide experiences for children in all areas of development...... children need time to reflect.

It is important to foster self-esteem, self awareness, cognitive development and expression and it is done by providing children with a variety of experiences in arts and crafts, books, music, writing, manipulation, building and physical development. It is to structure the environment in a way that allows children to experience activities that help them discover.
