Celia is kind enough to share her valuable knowledge with us about the stages of setting up a Mural Contract.

The Phone Call:

  • Most clients are going to be speaking with me initially over the phone, where I will ask them questions about what they desire and give them an estimate of my charges. They do not fluctuate from client to client.
A standard fee of $500US per day for example is given and I indicate that a standard children's room ..the size of ?x? would take me ? days.
  • From experience I have a very clear idea of the time it will take to complete a certain design ...BUT I suggest you indicate to them ... that until you meet and view the space and discuss design ideas you cannot quote an exact price. The charge for a consultation is $65.00US (only for residential clients). I expected to receive this modest fee when I met with the client. If they decided on working with me, I would deduct it from the total project and tell them so.
  • If the client balks in the phone conversation, then I have not wasted my time or theirs.
With a fee of $500US per day, taking a half-day off to drive and meet with a client, offering them advice and discussing their ideas...is not free time out of my day.

Initial Face To Consultation

  • If they are pleased with the work I have presented and have shown an indication that I possibly will be hired, I then proceed to viewing the work space.
  • Now is the time that YOU assess what it is going to be involved.
I ask..."Are the walls in good shape and painted with the proper paint?"
I paint murals on nothing but flat painted surfaces. If the client does not have the proper surface I discuss whether she is willing to paint them. I explain in detail why I require it.
  • I have rarely met a client that does not like to be involved or educated in the process. Anyone interested in this unique idea is to be complimented. Because it is their home and I take great pride in respecting their space,I encourage them to be involved.
