I guess after reading so much about Kez's work at New Farm, (Kez is a mural artist and book maker who teaches the course Creative Book Binding The interview Setting Up A Community Project will be referred to through out this article.)
After reading the lil' poem we wrote for the kids telling them about the ceramic tile wall mural we are making out by the sea. Sea Changes. , I guess you might be thinking - "All very well but how do you make these walls?
There is a variety of steps the process will take and they are usually but not necessarily in this loose order.
To show you why we would take these considerations into account I have posted a picture down below. It is an example of a ceramic tile mural (in progress) that is meant to be seen by motorists driving by. It is of course seen by people when they are walking by too. But the bulk of the viewing traffic will turn this corner before and after work or school. The wall is meant to be attractive signage for a primary school. It is meant to show a sense of pride and ownership to passers by. Perhaps it is hoped that they may be impressed and enroll their children. Or on the other hand - it might be a visual reminder to the parents of children already enrolled that it is a school of which they can be proud. The picture is meant to describe fairly accurately the elements of the environment that the children treasure the most. There is a pleasant place across the road where passerbys could pull over to take a photo or contemplate the mural, but it is not likely. It certainly isn't somewhere you would park to pick up the kids because of the heavy traffic.
