When we talk about using mural art to enhance an environment we can mean many different things.
Sometimes I am just employed to paint a simple landscape or an abstract design. This can bring serenity to the atmosphere by creating a placid scene. Or I can use colour to bring about calm feelings or even explore lines to lead the eye through peaceful meanderings.
Over the years I have become fascinated by the idea of combining painted murals with other elements in the therapeutic work area. I have a desire to explore the interaction of fountains with painted scenery. I believe that the combination of a still painted mural with the sounds and movements of running water, intertwined with the plant life that would thrive within this space, could create a very healing area indeed. So why stop there? I have begun research into types of stained glass work. The desire is to enhance the light that filters into the area and perhaps warm it cheerfully also. In this way I would be able to work with colour, light, kinetic movement, translucency, and much much more. Surely in this way an artist would be able to devise ways to embue environments with healing emotion and energy. Mosaic may get featured here too? Perhaps it could be worked into the furniture or become a border for the space. Maybe a mandala or labrynth could be trailed across the floor. This would provide opportunities to further convey a healing or spiritual message. The introduction of sculpture would open endless possibilities. Because 3D pieces could be created within the narrative context of the artwork mentioned above, they would further compliment the pacifying effect. What would the gestalt of the final end product be? Who knows let's see. Over the course of the next few years I will be experimenting with all of these possibilities. If you would care to venture with me I will invite you to give feedback, offer your input and suggest new ideas. I better get cracking! So until next time - keep those ideas coming.
