Having painted murals for a long while a girl just has to go professional!!
Why? Because she will run out of walls to paint if she doesn't - that's why!The more an artist works at muraling the more intriguing it becomes. The more artists get together on the discussion boards and talk about designs and curiosities that could become murals the more new ideas come to the surface. Of course when new techniques are discovered and talked about they need to be practiced and polished. So contracts need to be secured and benefactors need to be convinced that they need (not want) a mural created just by moi ! Right? How then do artists ... The trick to professional promotion I believe is journaling UH? have I suddenly switched topics????? No! ! ! !I believe strongly that Journaling is the key to running a sucessful mural creations business. I recommend recording the process of Mural Creation from beginning to end each and every time you start even the most minor of projects. Take notes from the beginning of the idea. Draw wildly and prolifically, right throughout the process and even after the completion record the celebration of its creation with copious photos, other products and spin-offs that have been created on the way. Why not have Giclee Reproductions created? They can either be huge reproductions of the entire mural or small vigenettes of the bigger picture. Work up and market the idea of future funding by presenting communities and benefactors with production development options with fundraising potential. Be clear from the beginning that you have the capacity to do this and you will see future artistic projects materialise. If you are serious about your work you will need to gently and with open honesty guide participants about how to capitalise on the warmth and loving atmosphere you have created. Don't miss anything!Whether it is the tiniest weeniest drawing or the most huge of muraling affairs - journal the lot. Lately I have spent a lot of time with my agent working out a system for accurately quoting costs. We have been creating reliable methods of estimating materials, scaffolding, time and labour. I have had to develop ways to successfully negotiate contracts. Sometimes the 'behind the scenes' issues are major and sometimes they are quite trivial but none-the-less they are important aspects of the business of Mural Creation.
