We are all here to have fun. Kid's come here to learn. So let's help each other along. Say the things you like about a painting and drawing. But that's not all. Ask questions. Get right on in there and ask people who's work you really admire to tell you how they went about doing it. I am sure they will be glad to tell you. Everyone likes it when someone else appreciates their work enough to take the time to ask.
So come on ...right in ...and ...ask, look and learn.
Try Not To Be Negative
Avoid hurting someone's feelings when talking about the pictures. Remember "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." What you don't like somebody else might think is just fantastic! But if you say hurtful things to people who are feeling a little bit shy they could actually go away even and not come back! So if you don't like a picture either don't comment or --- you could say. "You're picture could have been a lot different if??? you painted it green?" ..."When I try that I...."
Be A Careful Emoticon User.
You can't see body language when you are online. So very often people can't tell that you are joking. When you write on the discussion boards make sure the person you're talking to knows whether you are happy, sad, angry, joking, etc. You can do this by using "emoticons" such as :) During this course we will learn how to make our own little emoticons! So start thinking of the kinds of emotions you will need to be able to show now.
Be Respectful.
People on the Internet have rights just as they do in everyday life. Soooo! - Be Polite and Don't Be A Silly Threat Maker! But kids if something happens that you don't think is right Try To Be Open To Suggestions. Talk with Mum or Dad or another Responsible Adult. If someone says something to you on the internet don't reply right away, go and get mum or dad and they will know what to do or say.
Be A Peacemaker.
On the internet if one person insults another and then that person reacts in anger. We can have what you call a flame war.
All Flamers Go That Way Now!
If you insult someone with e-mail, they will probably get angry just as they would if you insulted them face to face. It is not okay to wreck whole classes in this way. So
Try To Be A Peace Maker
and if you think someone is getting angry be the one to say something nice. If it is you that is being hurt - stay calm. There is usually a moderator of discussions - but - sometimes he/she may not be online. You can be sure that sooner or later the moderator will sort any arguments out. So don't get as mad as a hornet! Be patient rather than making angry replies. If you want to tell the moderator how you are feeling - send an email. Always talk things through rather than becoming involved in flame wars online.
