Macromedia Web site Macromediaia, http://www.macromedia.com, has done an excellent job in the past few years of establishing itself as a major if not these major player in tools to use to create Web sites, especially ones that are dynamic and that use media other than just text. Historically, this company has been the company that brought uMacromediaia DirectorShockwaveve, anAuthorwarere. It has astutely added to that tools designed to optimize an author?s creations for the Web.

Specifically, we know tMacromediaedia Flash helps authors create graphics or vector oriented animations. Once created the author can export themshockwavewave format and then embed them in Web pages. Since the animations use graphics and vectors, they tend to be small. With the latest edition of Flash, called Flash Macromediaedia has included a compressor to compress embedded video objects into Flash animationMacromediaedia also offDreamweaveraver HomeSiteSiDreamweaveraver is a what you see if what you get tool that allows authors to drag objects such as images onto the screen and to easily specify color schemDreamweaveraver also has a code mode where you can see the code tDreamweaveraver generates. If you want to experiment with Flash, here is a little exercise:

FLASH EXAMPLE ? turn an ellipse into words

1. Use Flash?s ellipse tool to draw an ellipse. Fill it using a rainbow radial gradient fill color or any color of your choice. Center the ellipse on the stage. Make sure you do not group it. If it is grouped you will have to break it apart to get it to work.

2. click on frame 50 and use F7 to add a blank key frame. texttoole the texttootextboxeate a textbox. use a font of your selection but make it bold and large such as 28 and type words of your choice such Study, study, study

4. Modify break apart twice and use the paint bucket to add a different gradient fill color.

5. Select Frame 1, select the tweeningnel, then tweening, and choose the shape option.

9. Click the play button on the controller to view this animation.

10. If you like, import some music. It will go into Flash?s library so then open the library and drag the music to a frame of your animatioswfNow play
