Beating The Heat With Multiple SclerosisThis article is the first in my series of ‘Beating The Heat With MS'. You need to realize that modifications are necessary, especially when the climate becomes hot and balmy. Our neurological systems just can’t handle the normal daily tasks in summer’s heat. This first tip is one that is growing throughout the online community of services offered. These services are not unattainable, not expensive and are totally necessary to keep you as healthy as possible during the hot days in summer. As an MS patient, I can attest to this first tip, online grocery shopping. I am usually skeptical about new innovations in the areas of technology. I need proof and word-of-mouth testimonials when it comes to embarking on something as new and innovative as http://www.albertsons.com/ (serving the Pacific Northwest states). My neighbor has a two-year old toddler. Her struggles in the grocery store usually cost her plenty in pacifying purchases for her child. In addition, she suffers frazzled nerves and worn out muscles, trudging up three flights of stairs with her six bags of groceries. She swears by shopping online for groceries. I tried the service and I must boast that it's the next best thing since homemade macaroni and cheese! I sit at the computer and place my registration information (name, address, phone number) into the database. Then I go shopping. Now, this list is quite comprehensive from staples to import items. (I splurged on purchasing a 'pony' keg of Beck's beer for my husband). It was one dollar cheaper than the local supermarket AND it was brought up three flights of stairs to my apartment! Prices are comparable to those of the ‘regular supermarket’ variety. In fact, the ‘specials’ abound for online grocery shopping as they are in the on-site locations. Everything is categorized and subcategorized to assist you in finding products. If you can’t find it on the virtual ‘aisles’, you can perform a basic or advanced search on their site. What could be simpler? MS patients don’t need the extra efforts required in shopping through the aisles. Each step is sometimes twice the effort for someone with mobility challenges, hence the advantage to the online grocery shopper. The fingers literally do the legwork! How many times have you searched for something along the store aisles, only to experience frustration (and fatigue in pushing that shopping cart throughout the store)? Back and forth you search, sometimes in vain, only to pray that a store clerk will prove helpful, lessening your steps, directing you to your item? Please!!!
