A New Begining - Part 2 - Tradition© Kerry Dennis

In my last article
I raised a couple of questions that I promised that I would answer in this
article. At this point, I am uncertain that there is an answer to the ever
more rapid cycles of violence and self destructive behavior that is gripping
society.I know that there is help for a few. It's the difficult path. It's
the path of self honesty, personal responsibility, and spirituality. The
self honesty part is the hardest. Self honesty demands that we give up
our games.
Our games are the ways in
which we survive. We have to play these games in order to survive. At least,
this is what we are led to believe, from the day of our birth. These games,
if you will, are a hold-over from our distant past, when we lived as tribes,
struggling to survive. They come under five headings:
Tradition
Religion
Patriotism
Racialism
Family Values
What these represent

social connectedness. You may need to change your lifestyle though.
Now, to begin with, this
is only for those who are really serious about recovery and living a productive,
satisfying and enlightening life.I found that I was only truly serious
when I was at the point of being willing to try anything to find some relief
from my inner turmoil. And I don't think that the need for recovery is
just for those who have identified addictions, but for everyone. We all
grew up in this codependent society. We all grew up amidst the same distorted
thinking.
So, with that said, let us
begin with Tradition. Tradition, in and of itself is not a bad thing. Nevertheless,
as I have stated in previous articles, there isn't really any good or bad,
there is just Appropriate or Inappropriate, Expedient or Inexpedient,
Productive or Destructive. One of the most important realizations that
I have ever had is: Classifying aspects of reality and experience in black
and white terms inhibits openness to change. Also, anything that you stand
