Victimhood - A Dead End To Recovery

Those who saw the "God Thing" from a religious perspective were doing what was best for them. If I would have them accept what I believe is best for me, I also must accept what they believe to be best for them. All roads lead home and they are all paved with the same thing. Blood, sweat and tears. It was not the differences in our belief systems that I needed to focus on, but rather on our samenesses as human beings. We have all traveled a difficult road. We all have painful memories. We all need to take responsibility for our lives. We all need to feel better.

So, I concentrated on getting the meaning of each step, following through with each of them and gaining the benefits of doing so. I left my victimhood behind and I found the road to recovery.

Recovery is about spirituality. It is not about recovering from alcoholism or drug addition or co-dependency, it is about recovering from a spiritual sickness that has crippled and maimed us physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. It is a process through which we learn to re-evaluate our thoughts, our actions and our feelings and learn to participate in our own lives. It is an alchemical process that takes the garbage of the past and transforms it into a celebration of life in which the future is filled with promise. Victimhood, on the other hand, is a dead end. You choose.
