MP3 - Lindows launched by MP3.com founder

The man that helped ignite the digital music revolution, Michael Robertson's who started up MP3.com that attracted many lawsuits has a new gig.

Robertson's new gig is an operating system called Lindows that aims to run programs designed for Microsoft Corp.'s Windows.

But Robertson has already attracted law suites from software gain Microsoft. After a month of its launch Lindows.com Inc has attracting considerable attention--and scepticism.

"Anytime you're trying to change the world, you're going to encounter challenges," said Robertson, who sold MP3.com last year to Vivendi Universal SA but still serves as an adviser.

Experts predict if Lindows it would provide an alternative that's easy to use and runs efficiently but costs about half the full retail price of the home edition of Windows XP and plays well with real Windows-based systems. If it delivers what it promises, Lindows can crack the Microsoft's business and home operating system monopoly.

If Lindows can win customers, it could open up a vast library of Linux software and create vast amounts of opportunities for programmers in the open-source community.

Few details have only been offered about its product. On Jan. 24, it offered a $99 download of a "Sneak Preview" on condition the information not be made public. But the public will have to wait till later this year for the release of Lindows products.

What is Lindows? Lindows is an operating system that will allow users to run Windows and Linux software on the same system

As mentioned before Lindows.com Inc has not released much public information on their products. But you can download a sneak preview for $99 USD at http://www.lindows.com/lindows_products....

Some features of LindowsOS: · You'll notice that much of your Windows information that you depend on (such as your email and web favorites) is ready to go in your LindowsOS email program and browser. · Even your wallpaper is copied from Windows to LindowsOS! · Because LindowsOS and Windows are on the same hard disk, you can browse and use all of your files and folders in My Documents or anywhere on your hard disk. · But perhaps best of all in your Launch menu you will see listed "Windows Programs" that you can run under LindowsOS.

As it is only sneak preview so not all programs will run flawlessly. Lindows.com invites input from the sneak preview to develop the system into a robust operating system. So try it.
