Starting over...

FAWLTY TOWERS: This is a fairly well known British TV series about an innkeeper and his staff who run a hotel. It’s premise is fairly non-descript, but that’s the only thing in this show that is “of the norm.” FAWLTY TOWERS stars ex-Monty Pythoner John Cleese as the inn keeper Basil Fawlty and he gives, episode after episode, one of the finest comedic performances ever captured on celluloid. I’ve been watching this constantly, and every time, I require the assistance of several strong men to lift me off the floor and force me to stop laughing. Smashing television, and more proof the British are just as good at this as we are.

CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM: Larry David, the co-creator of SEINFELD, is such an oddity, such a walking sitcom character, that he decided to make a show about himself. It stars him as Larry David and, like THE LARRY SANDERS SHOW before it, has real live celebrities playing themselves. Like a meaner spirited version of the aforementioned SEINFELD, this show plays to the nit-picking, observational style of humor and, since it’s star is also it’s creator, hits it’s mark most of the time. Sadly, you’ll have to have HBO to get this one, but it really is worth seeking out.

THE DAILY SHOW: Jon Stewert has long been one of my comedic idols and the last few days have proved him to be much more than that. With a strength and conviction rarely seen on TV, he’s given it his all to make THE DAILY SHOW keep on plugging, trying desperately to get back to it’s former comedy self. In the weeks to come, I’ll be turning to him for strength, and I think all of you should too.

BARENAKED IN AMERICA: This is the documentary about the band Barenaked Ladies, one of my personal favorites as far as music goes. The crew follows them around on their first big American tour and just, in general, hangs out with them. Very funny, great music, and all around a good time.

Okay, I hope that some of these suggestions helps you through these truly weird times as much as they’ve helped me. I promise that next week, things will be back to normal. I’ve got some good things planned for this fall, so keep reading. Also, I’m thinking about doing another contest (finally) so be on the lookout for that. Until next time, be safe, be happy
