Ah, Sunday night. The day of they deadline. Let me tell you, for a writer, there is no worse of a feeling than staring at a blank screen at two o’clock in the morning with absolutely nothing in your mind except for the lyrics to “Brandy.” It’s times like these that make me think of walking away from the written word and take up the art of flag signaling as a method if getting my point across. This beast called writers block has got me firmly in its foul grip, allowing me only to write about… well, having writer’s block. I think it comes from this being a particularly hectic week for me. I’m sure the details would be too mundane to share with you, but let’s just say it involved meeting with the Queen and a few dinners with Heads of State. However, the dreaded deadline waits for no man; a hasher mistress is nary to be found. So it’s with a slightly bowed head that I dip into my “reserve stash.”

You see, it’s like this: For this column, I like to watch a movie every week, then review it. Now, that really doesn’t seem that hard, but when you suffer from a chronic case of laziness coupled with near-fatal procrastination… well, I might as well try to turn my underpants to gold. Again. So for these occasions, when the words aren’t coming and no movie has been watched. I turn to the aforementioned “reserve stash,” which is a series of old favorite films that I could write about any time with no viewing beforehand. I know, it’s a little like cheating and might possibly be illegal in Malaysia, but sometimes “ya gots to do what ya gots to do,” as the old saying goes. This week, I present to you a fairly recent little gem. Actually, to say that it’s “little” would be a bit mis-leading. Replace that word with, “Six-hour” and we’re more on the right track. Now, as soon as I wrote that, I heard every single one of your eyes roll. I know lengthy things are not “hip” and “cool” in this MTV world of instant gratification, but sometimes I say you have to wait for the good things in life. Unless I happen to be standing in line at a coffee bar. I want my Frappuchino now, DAMMIT!!! But I digress. The movie this week is, in fact, a mini-series originally aired on British television a few years ago. Its name… ULTRAVIOLET.
