GET TO KNOW YOUR FILM CRITIC: An Article Straight From the Heart

© Clinton Davis

Hey folks. I was thinking today about how much I love movies and how much I know you, as the readers of such a column, must love movies and it occurred to me. All these weeks and months have past and, yes, I’ve shared with you many a film. But who among you know what films I love the most? Who among you can say, “I (insert name) know all the favorite films of Clinton Davis!” It’s with that thought that I bring you this weeks column. I shall take you on a tour of my hall of fame… all of the movies that I consider to be top of their craft. Contained within this column is a wide variety of films, stretching from romantic-comedy all the way to splattery horror; you see, my tastes are as eclectic as a all-you-can-eat buffet. So please, enjoy the menu of filmed delights:

CLINT’S ALL TIME FAVORITE MOVIES!!!!!

1. ANNIE HALL – This is my favorite movie of all time simply for the fact that Woody Allen does an amazing job of playing me. Granted, the movie wasn’t “technically” based on my life, but it might as well have been. I have never identified more with or been affected so deeply by a movie than I have with ANNIE HALL.

2. EVIL DEAD – Most fans of the EVIL DEAD series tend to look at EVIL DEAD 2 as the best, but I have always gone the other way. The first one is my favorite simply because it is one of two horror films that scared the bejeezus out of me when I saw it for the first time. Also, Bruce Campbell is the essence of cool.

3. SMOKE – This movie is small and quiet, but it stakes a high spot on this list because it is the most real film I’ve ever seen. By that I mean, every character in it seems organic to the plot, like there are no cameras and no script. Also, Harvey Kietel plays his best part to date, in my opinion. If any of you want a more complete review of this film, there is one up on this very website.

4. PULP FICTION – This movie is what made me want to be a filmmaker. Watching this is like taking courses in screenwriting, directing, editing and cinematography, all in it’s three hour span. Not to mention the fact that it spawned a thousand bad imitations, a dubious, but still note-worthy example of it’s power.
