Corey Haim - an 80's Teen Idol
The Canadian born (Toronto, Ontario – Dec. 23, 1971) child star became a hit with his cute looks and his ability to act. Young teen girls swooned over his image in teen magazines for years. His parents (Bernie, sales representative, and Judy, computer operator – now divorced) supported his acting endeavors as he first began appearing in commercials in Toronto. By the age of 11 he landed a Canadian TV series role in The Edison Twins (1982), the adventures of two sibling prodigies whose knowledge of science come in handy in tight situations. His first feature film debut was in the movie Firstborn (1984) where he discovers the illegal activities of his divorced mother’s new boyfriend. By 1985 he appeared in Stephen King’s, Silver Bullet, where he plays a wheelchair bound youth who discovers the local minister is a werewolf. Corey has appeared with major stars like Sally Fields in Murphy’s Romance (1985) and Charlie Sheen in the movie Lucas (1986) where Sheen plays his high school bodyguard as Corey learns the loss of love. His friend and co-star, Corey Feldman, have appeared in numerous comedies, License to Drive (1988), Dream a Little Dream (1989) and Dream a Little Dream, II (1994). Corey experienced some set backs with his career as his personal life took a dive as drugs came into play. He was even being sued by Lloyds of London due to his drug abuse and insurance claiming no previous health problems and not completing a movie (Cybersleaze 7/11/96). Life as a teen idol, turned adult, cannot be easy, but Corey has managed to stay in the limelight of the movie screen in such movies as Dean Koontz’s The Watchers (1988), and the thriller Blown Away (1992) with Corey Feldman again.
