Meryl Streep the Serious Actress
Down to earth and willing to laugh she tackled some comedic movies that only she could have pulled off. She Devil (1989) where she plays the spoiled romance writer and Death Becomes Her with Goldie Hawn (1992). These comedies where quickly out weighed by the romance with Clint Eastwood that swept the nation from a little known book The Bridges of Madison County (1995) which grossed a $71 million plus. With many movies unmentioned the highlights of her life have been acting and the love she has for her husband and children. Her most recent endeavor has been the movie Music of the Heart (1999) in which she portrays Roberta Tsavaras who taught music at an elementary school in Harlem and leads her students to perform at Carnegie Hall. Her intensity can be found with an interview quote: "I need to act. I love to act. I would probably need pills or therapy if I didn't get to act. It's what keeps me sane."
