Sally Field Is Still FlyingIn her early 20s she was known as Gidget in the 1965 television series that captured the smiles of American viewers. By 1967 she made her debut with Kirk Douglas in The Way West. Then she stared in the long running television series (82 episodes) as Sister Bertrille, the The Flying Nun. Born Nov. 6, 1946 in Pasadena, CA, to a drug salesman, Richard Field (deceased), and a former Paramount contract actress, Margaret Field (known as Maggie Mahoney), Sally Field has done her parents proud. She is a high school graduate who has continuously worked in cinema since she was that cute Gidget and was a dream date on the Dating Game (1965). She has managed to become one of the most dramatic actresses of the silver screen. Her acting ability spans from the laughs of The Flying Nun (1967) to the complexities of 16 multiple personalities of Sybil (1976). By 1977 she was co-staring with Harrison Ford and Henry Winkler in the movie, Heroes. Who could ever miss the movies Smokey and the Bandit (1977) and Hopper (1978) and that sequel Smokey and the Bandit II (1980)? These were the fuel for tabloids that really played upon the romantic involvement with Sally Field and Burt Reynolds. These films helped to fuel her success in movies. According to Mr. Showbiz she was quoted commenting on their relationship: "We have a very beautiful but strange relationship." Burt Reynolds' comment was, "I'm not going to get into a pissing contest with Sally, because I'd lose." Maybe this is a reflection of Sally's determination that she exhibits in one of her best movies, Norma Rae (1979), which won her an Oscar. Sally has been married twice, Steve Craig (contractor) and then Alan Greisman (producer). She remains a single mother of three children, Peter Craig, Elijah Craig and Samuel Greisman. She is a private person and is not widely exposed on the Internet, which is refreshing. 1981, Sally co-stared with Tommy Lee Jones in a comedy Back Road where actors try to overcome a failing script. She then appeared in an intense movie about news reporting with Paul Newman in Absence of Malice (1981) in which her character falls for her subject, the son of a deceased mob boss. A very cute romantic comedy movie is Kiss Me Goodbye (1982) with Jeff Bridges in which Sally still sees her deceased husband, James Caan. Drama followed in 1984's production of Places in the Heart, in which she is a recent widow on a broken down farm during the Depression era, a very touching movie about life. This role won her an Oscar in the best actress category.
