Dennis Quaid -- the Right Stuff

He played a football hero in Everybody's All-American (1988), an English professor in the remake of the 1949 noir classic D.O.A. (1988 - co-staring his wife Meg Ryan), a rock-n-roll star in Great Balls of Fire! (1989) and Postcards from the Edge, with Shirley MacLaine and Meryl Streep.

His most recent movies like Something to Talk About  (1995) with Julia Roberts, Parent Trap (1998) are very clever acting. A great movie of swords and dragons is Dragonheart (1996) with the great voice of Sean Connery to a computerized dragon image. Quaid was fourth on the list for this movie. The star role had first been offered to Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson and Patrick Swayze who all passed it by. In the long run Quaid was probably the best choice for the part.

Dennis Quaid's latest movies are Playing by Heart (1998) where he plays a chronic liar, Savior (1998) playing an American diplomat turned mercenary. His most recent is Any Given Sunday (1999) dealing with pro-football.

Screen seducer of women, and dragon slyer it comes down to the fact that Dennis Quaid has the right stuff. Thanks to The Veritable Dennis Quaid web site for the use of the photos to illustrate this article.
