His talents have extended way beyond his character, Luke Skywalker, who’s Force he can never truly escape. His acting role in the Star Wars Trilogy began a long-term acting career. The first Star Wars began in 1975, while at the age of 24, followed by The Empire Strikes Back released in 1981 (which the wampa scene was written to explain his facial changes due to a car accident in 1980), then the final, The Return of the Jedi in 1983. Born in Oakland, California, on September 25, 1951, to Suzanne and William Hamill, Navy Captain. He has six siblings and has lived in Virginia, New York City and Japan where he graduated from Yokohama High School in 1969. His family then moved back to California, where Mark entered Los Angeles City College as a Theatre Arts major. His acting began with the soap opera General Hospital and then his first professional role was on the original Bill Cosby Show in 1970. He played as a co-star in The Texas Wheelers, the first comedy show not to use a "laugh track." This lead to TV appearances on The Partridge Family, Eight is Enough, and One Day At A Time. Some other movies were Corvette Summer, The Big Red One, and The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia, Laserblast and The City (TV movie). He and his wife Marilou York now live in Malibu, California, and also have a place in New York City with their three children; Nathan (1979), Griffin (1983), and Chelsea(1988). Movies have not been Mark’s sole career. He is highly acclaimed in theater, including time on Broadway. He has appeared in several Broadway plays, including lead roles of The Nerd, The Elephant Man, and Amadeus. He was nominated for a Drama Desk award for best actor in a musical for his work in the Broadway musical Harrigan 'N' Hart. Leaving Broadway in the late 1980's he returned to movies and TV appearances. His voice is in high demand for cartoon voice-overs. You can hear him in Batman: The Animated Series where his voice was the Joker, Little Mermaid, Hollyrock-a-Bye Baby and SpiderMan. Mark has completed several projects in the computer CD ROM games field. His most notable is as Colonel Christopher Blair in Wing Commander III and IV. The Black Pearl, is a five-issue graphic novel co-wrote with Eric Johnson which has became a best-seller and will soon be released as a trade paperback.
