Kevin Bacon: Actor, Musician and Dancer

He can dance, fight fierce graboids, carry a tune, and has become a Broadway sensation. Kevin Bacon is a diverse character actor that began his trek to New York at the age of seventeen, to wait tables and endless tryouts.

However, unlike many that try, his dreams have paid off. After some 35 movies ranging from Footloose to Friday 13th, Kevin has had an erratic, but diverse background of acting.

He was born on July 8, 1958, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to a large close family. He was one of the youngest to be admitted to the Circle in the Square Theater School. His tenacity has paid off when his first real movie break came with a role in National Lampoon’s Animal House, while his Broadway debut was in Slab Boys where he stared with Sean Penn and Val Kilmer, who where relatively unknowns at the time.

With roles in dramatic movies (Apollo 13, Criminal Law and The River Wild) he also had appearances on the soap opera the Guiding Light. Wild Thing, this past year was a different role for Kevin. He dealt with the full Monty, with a scene that had full frontal nudity. Talk about exposure!

Kevin’s talents are constantly branching; he has directed a movie Losing Chase, which tells a poignant story of a healing friendship between two women. You guessed it, his wife, Kyra Sedgwick stared in it with Helen Mirren.

Kevin met Kyra Sedgwick while working on a PBS American Playhouse series called Lemon Sky. The two have had a seemingly happy marriage yielding two children (Travis and Sosie Ruth). You might remember Kyra in the great hit of Phenomenon with John Trivolta.  This couple have a New York Manhattan roomy apartment and a turn of the century weekend farm in Connecticut.

Six degrees of Kevin Bacon? Never heard of it? Well, it is a very popular game that has developed on the Internet. How is it played? It is based upon his movies and the actors that he has appeared with. It is said that any actor in the past 15 years can be linked to Kevin Bacon in six steps or less. These steps or links are called a Bacon Number.
