If you are seeking the ultimate debonair, sophisticated male star figure of our lifetime. Several names might come to mind, but one will stand out as a mega star. Sean Connery, whose films has grossed over $1.5 billion in his career. Few actors can boast such a popular box office draw.

From the high-tech British Agent 007 to the near comedic performance as Harrison Ford’s father in Indiana Jones’s Last Crusade, one cannot mistake his talent and his appeal to the masses. Having some 65 films to his credit, 55 of which were staring roles, Sean Connery is a legend of our time in the movie industry.

Born as a true Scotsman, August 25, 1930 in Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland, UK. His father worked as a truck driver and at a rubber factory. He has one brother, Neil. Sean left school at an early age and had many odd jobs to make his way in life. Diversity is an understatement as he was once a lifeguard, a coffin polisher and even a male nude art model at Edinburgh Art College.

Sean’s real name is Thomas Sean Connery and he had joined the British Royal Navy at the early age of 16. He was released from the Navy due to a long bout with a stomach ulcer. He became a milkman and even delivered milk to the same school (Fettes School in Edinburgh) that the fictional character James Bond had attended. He was later a bricklayer and started body building in his time off. The results lead him to enter the Mr. Universe body building competition where he came in third in 1953.

Good looks and a keen sense for characters, Sean was a natural to acting. He was named the Sexiest Man Alive in 1989 (People Magazine) and the Sexiest Man of the Century (1999, People Magazine).

His movie career began like most actors with bit parts with a gambit of movie roles from Tarzan’s Greatest Adventures (1959) to harden classics like Macbeth (1961) and Anna Karenina (1961). Connery came into his own with Ian Fleming’s classic spy character James Bond 007 when he took the part in Dr. No. (1962) despite that Ian Fleming felt that he did not appear as the character he had envisioned to play the now famous role.

Connery’s career was launched to mainstream movies with the James Bond character a series of movies followed: From Russia With Love (1963), Goldfinger (1964), Thunderball (1965), You Only Live Twice (1967) and Diamonds Are Forever (1971). In 1983 he stared in an unofficial (non Ian Fleming film titled, Never Say Never Again.
