A wallflower by no means, this alluring, seductive beauty found fame playing saucy leads on prime time Television. Linda Gray began her career from simple photo shoots and nearly 400 commercial spots as a model and actress.
Born in Santa Monica, California (a true native) on Sept. 12, 1942 she found love at the age of 19 with art director Ed Thrasher, whom she married two years later and settled down and had a son Jeff and daughter Kehly. Linda Gray is also the aunt of the bionic woman, actress, Lindsay Wagner. Though it may not have been the wishes of her husband and parents she entered the world of drama Television beginning with such hits as: Marcus Welby M.D. (1974), Emergency! (1976), McCloud (1976) and Switch (1977). Linda has continued to appear on a few major TV hits in vignettes like an episode of Touched by an Angel (1996). Any one that watched prime time Television could not have missed the moving drama of the rich backstabbing Texan family on the TV series Dallas (1978-1989) where she portrayed J. R. Ewing’s boozing spouse, Sue Ellen Shepard Ewing. It was a character that America loved, her beauty and shared empathy for her trodden character. Dallas had become America’s nighttime soap that knew no gender boundaries; men loved the harsh and powerful J. R. and the women loved the wealth and glamour of the fictional family. Prior to Dallas, Linda had a few movies that were notable. Murder in Payton Place (1977) where revenge killings disturb the quiet town. A comedy with Carol Burnet entitled The Grass is Always Greener over the Septic Tank (1978), which was based on a novel by the great, Erma Bombeck. During the Dallas years Linda stared in some movies that you may remember. Haywire, (drama / 1980) with Lee Remick and Jason Robards was a decent movie. By 1987 she appeared in the western, Kenny Rogers as The Gambler, Part III: The Legend Continues. Sadly, by 1983, Gray's marriage crumbled under the pressures of the spotlight of Dallas and the demands. She even had to miss her son’s graduation due to film schedules. Dallas was not her only tribute – Melrose Place -- Linda portrayed a ruthless businesswoman. Her aggressive character was so popular that she stared in a spin-off show Models Inc. in 1994.
