Her beauty has been destined for fame and major films that include box office thrillers and tear moving dramas.
A high school drop out, Nicole has made the world take notice of her abilities to act and her beauty only accentuates her talent. Her father, Anthony, is a renowned biochemist and clinical psychologist and her mother, Janelle, is a nursing instructor. Nicole’s father works in the breast cancer field and has become very prominent in Australia. While in school, Kidman was drawn to the stage in children pageant plays and with the blessings of her parents she focused on acting and ballet. Kidman’s first major appearance was in a now Christmas Australian classic Bush Christmas (1983) where she plays a young sibling whose mother is about to lose their farm and all their hopes are placed on winning a horse race. From this point on she dropped out of school to pursue a full-time acting career. Her debut film led to many offers. The next to follow was the movie, BMX Bandits (1983) which was based on a group of kids on bikes who become entangled with bank robbers. By the mid-eighties she was appearing in successful TV mini-series like, Winners (1985) and Vietnam (1986) of which both were aired on Australian TV and are not really available here in the states. The Vietnam mini-series gave Kidman her first acting award, Australian Film Institute Award, at the age of 17. Kidman made the transition to American films with the sea going movie Dead Calm (1989) with co-star Sam Neill who played her husband left on a ship while a killer-rapist kidnaps Kidman. From there she found her love, Tom Cruise and went on to make her next hit movie, Days of Thunder (1990). Once shadowed by Cruise’s limelight, Kidman had always held her own and even strived harder to capture her own spotlight. Kidman and Cruise co-starred in a few films that made them a dramatic team: Far and Away (1992) in which they are Irish immigrants forging their destiny in America and Eyes Wide Shut (1999) where a married couple explores dangerous sex beyond their marriage.
