Angela Lansbury -- TV Sleuth

E-card Courtesy of CelebrityStorm.com

Peter and Angela had a son, Anthony Peter Shaw, born 1953. Even though with a family she held a busy career. During the late 60’s and early 70’s she was winning Tony Awards for her Broadway stage performances in the musicals: Mame(1966), Dear World (1969), Gypsy (1975) and Sweeney Todd (1979). These were just a few of the major plays Angela was weaving into her career while balancing Hollywood movies.

In the 70’s Disney found Angela. She appeared in the enchanting Bedknobs and Broomsticks (1971) as an apprentice witch with three kids searching for a missing component to a magic spell. This children’s classis was re released in 1996 complete with the flying bed.

Two musical classics put to film were Sweeny Todd (1982) the same role she played to Broadway and The Pirates of Penzance (1983) an exciting fast paced operetta that one should really see (I recommend this one, but you must like musicals). This Gilbert and Sullivan musical stars Angela with Kevin Kline and the also renowned singer Linda Ronstadt.

If you’re into mysteries you might want to check out her appearances in The Mirror Cracked (1980), Death on the Nile (1978) and The Lady Vanishes (1979).

Her most famous TV role (beginning in 1984), as murder sleuth, Jessica Fletcher ran for some 264 episodes and 12 years on the series Murder, She Wrote.

Several major movies were made from this successful TV series: South by Southwest (1997), A Story to Die For (2000), The Last Free Man (2001) and The Celtic Riddle (2003).

Unfortunately after 54 years of marriage, her husband Peter Shaw died this January (2003), which was a great blow to her life.

Today you will find her still getting roles that you may not even recognize like the voices within the animated Disney movies, Anastasia (1997), Fantasia/2000 (1999) and her latest and current venture The Last Unicorn (2004) which is yet to be released.

Acting and voice are the talents that has led her to star in 74 movies and numerous Broadway plays and musicals. We have not seen the last of Angela Lansbury by a long shot.
