With the Oscars just around the corner, it’s time to take a look back at some of the films of the 80’s that made the Best Picture award the honor that it is.

Driving Miss Daisy (1989)

Daisy: Hoke?
Hoke: Yes'm.
Daisy: You're my best friend.
Hoke: No, go on Miss Daisy.
Daisy: No, really, you are... You are.
Hoke: Yes'm.

Daisy Werthan: Did you have the air-conditioning checked? I told you to have the air-conditioning checked.
Hoke Colburn: I had the air-conditioning checked. I don't know what for. You never allow me to turn it on.
Daisy Werthan: Hush up!


Rain Man (1988)

Charlie Babbitt: Raymond, am I using you?
Raymond Babbitt: Yeah.
Charlie Babbitt: He is answering a question from a half hour ago!

Charlie Babbit: I'm gonna let ya' in on a little secret, Ray. K-Mart sucks.


Platoon (1986)

Sgt. Elias: I love this place at night. The stars ... there's no right or wrong in them. They're just there.

Amadeus (1984)

Katerina Cavalieri: I heard you met Herr Mozart.
Salieri: News travels fast in Vienna.
Katerina Cavalieri: And he's been commissioned to write an opera. Is it true?
Salieri: Yes.
Katerina Cavalieri: Is there a part in it for me?
Salieri: No.
Katerina Cavalieri: How would you know?
Salieri: Do you know where it's set, my dear?
Katerina Cavalieri: No.
Salieri: In a harem.
Katerina Cavalieri: What's that?
Salieri: A brothel!
Katerina Cavalieri: Oh-h-h-h.

Emperor Joseph II: Your work is ingenious. It's quality work. And there are simply too many notes, that's all. Just cut a few and it will be perfect.

Terms of Endearment (1983)

Aurora Greenway: Do you have any reaction at all to my telling you I love you?
Garrett Breedlove: I was just inches from a clean getaway.

Aurora Greenway: Would you like to come in?
Garrett Breedlove: I'd rather stick needles in my eyes.
