Lethal Weapon: So Good They Made 4
Martin Riggs' wife is killed, and that was the start of it all. Mel Gibson and Danny Glover starred as Martin Riggs and Roger Murtaugh in the action hit
Lethal Weapon in 1987. It was such a hit, they followed it up with three more. Each one put the two L.A. Cops in a little more dangerous and action packed situations.
Lethal Weapon
Martin Riggs' wife has just been killed, and he has developed a suicidal attitude about work. Roger Murtaugh is glimpsing retirement in his near future when paired with Riggs to investigate a drug baron.
Riggs: You want me to drive?
Murtaugh: No, you're supposed to be suicidal, remember? I'll drive.
Riggs: Anybody who drives in this town is suicidal!
Murtaugh: Yes, or no-you wanna die?
Riggs: Oh, I just got the job done. What...do you want?
Murtaugh: Just answer the question!
Riggs: Well, what do you want to hear, man? Do you want to hear that sometimes I think about eating a bullet? Huh? Well, I do! I've even got a special bullet for the occasion with a hollow point. Look! Make sure it blows the back of my...head out and do the job right. Every single day I wake up and I think of a reason not to do it. Every single day! You know why I don't do it? This is gonna make you laugh. You know why I don't do it? The job. Doing the job. Now that's the reason.
Murtaugh: You're not trying to draw a psycho pension. You really are crazy!
Murtaugh: Have you ever met anybody you didn't kill?
Riggs: Well, I haven't killed you yet.
Lethal Weapon 2
Riggs and Murtaugh discover a car trunk full of South African money but are assigned to protect a federal witness rather than solve the mystery of the money. Instead of keeping them out of trouble, their assignment protecting the witness leads them straight into a chase for the smugglers who are tied to the money.
Captain Murphy: Murtaugh, all that damage you caused downtown is comin' out of the department budget.
Murtaugh: Fine, pay it in Krugerrands!
Captain Murphy: Don't make jokes, Murtaugh. Make arrests.
Murtaugh: (Sitting on a boobytrapped toilet) Why didn't they plant the bomb in Trish's stove?
Riggs: Yeah, think of all the needless suffering that could have ended there!
Murtaugh: I'm gonna die on a toilet, aren't I?
Riggs: Guys like you don't die on toilets.
