Mission: Impossible 2 hit theatres everywhere last Wednesday and ended up at the top of the box office for the week. Also at the top is Tom Cruise, with another success to add to his list. Since hitting the film scene in 1981, Cruise has made quite an impact on the movie world. Interestingly, his life's dream was not originally to be an actor. Rather, he had hopes of becoming a priest. That dream was abandoned in high school when he began taking acting classes, dropped out of school, and then moved to New York to pursue an acting career at age 18. His film debut came in 1981 in Endless Love.
Within five years, Cruise was starring in some of the top films of the 1980's. His success came somewhat as a surprise due to his unconventional looks and his shorter height at 5'7". Today, he is one of the highest paid actors and has been nominated for numerous awards. He won Best Performance by an Actor Golden Globes in 1990, 1997, and 2000 for Born on the Fourth of July, Jerry Maguire, and Magnolia. Cruise has been married to Nicole Kidman since 1990. The two have starred together in Far and Way and Eyes Wide Shut. They have two adopted children, Isabella and Connor. Some of Tom Cruise's Memorable Roles: Dr. Bill Hartford in Eyes Wide Shut (1999) No dream is ever just a dream. Jerry Maguire in Jerry Maguire (1996) Do you know what it's like to be me out there for you? It is an up-at-dawn, pride-swallowing siege that I will never fully tell you about. Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible (1996) Relax...it's much worse than you think. Lestat de Lioncourt in Interview with a Vampire (1994) Evil is a point of view. Lieutenant Daniel Kaffee in A Few Good Men (1992) You don't need a patch on your arm to have honor. Cole Trickle in Days of Thunder (1990) I'm more afraid of being nothing than I am of being hurt. Ron Kovic in Born on the Fourth of July (1989) People say if you don't love America, then get...out. Well, I love America. Charlie Babbit in Rain Man (1988) I'm gonna let you in on a little secret, Ray. K-Mart sucks. Brian Flanagan in Cocktail (1988) All things end badly, or else they wouldn't end. Lt. Pete "Maverick" Mitchell in Top Gun (1986) You don't have time to think up there. If you think, you're dead. Go To Page: 1 2
