Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin as devoted newlywed ghosts, Michael Keaton a bioexorcist, and Winona Ryder as a deathly looking teenager could only be Beetlejuice. This film is about a newlywed couple who dies shortly after buying a beautiful New England farm house. After death, they are trapped inside the house, even as new owners move in. THeir feeble attempts to scare the new occupants fail, and as a result, they hire Betelgeuse. Betelgeuse is not an ordinary ghost, he is a foul-mouthed, yellow-haired, anarchic spirit who specializes in exorcisms of the dead.
This film is full of big names, big laughs, and big suprises. Characters: Alec Baldwin-Adam Maitland Geena Davis-Barbara Maitland Winona Ryder-Lydia Deitz Catherine O'Hara-Delia Deitz Jeffrey Jones-Charles Deitz Michael Keaton-Betelguese Glenn Shadix-Otho Memorable Quotes: Otho: Don't mind her. She's just upset that someone dropped a house on her sister. Delia: (evaluating her new home) A little gasoline...blowtorch...no problem. Otho: What happened to these people? Adam: Barb, honey...we're dead. I don't think we have very much to worry about anymore. Barbara: We're very unhappy. Adam: We're not completely helpless, Barbara. I've been reading that book and there's a word for people in our situation: ghosts. Betelgeuse: Go ahead...make my millenium. Adam: What are your qualifications? Lydia: Maybe YOU can relax in a haunted house, but I can't. Delia: Lydia, I have a chance to teach you something here. You have got to take the upper hand in all situations or people, whether they are dead or alive, will walk all over you. Lydia: My life is a dark roo. One big dark room. Delia: I will live with you in this hellhole, but I must express myself. If you don't let me gut out this house and make it my own, I will go insane, and I will take you with me! Lydia: I myself am strange and unusual. Betelgeuse: I'm the ghost with the most, babe.
