Hooked

I finally got a decent road bike 3 years ago when I turned 27. It had been since high school since I had a road bike. I loved that bike, and this new bike was away to re-capture the good times I used to have. Going where I wanted to go-whenever, and as fast or as lazily as possible. I used to ride by the house where the girl I liked lived, and circle the block numerous times hoping she'd see me. I could THINK while I was out riding. Heh. This last summer I got into road riding heavily, and finally talked a mountain biker acquaintance into buying a road bike as well so I'd have someone to ride with. He did so on one condition- that I bought a mountain bike. Reluctantly I did. And it took awhile before I actually liked it. It was harder to be good at it. But it didn't take long until I fell in love with it- the challenge, the trails, and the scenery. And this casual friend turned into a best friend during numerous rides. That's all we did last summer- ride. A double road century, a long weekend MTB King around Moab, hour-long road spins, zipping through local trails.... The rides were great, and the friendship was even better. This last year he moved out of the Northwest to go to Arizona. We talk often, and plan riding vacations together. It was the best summer of my life- and it has also made the rest of my life that much better. Can't wait to hook up with him in Moab again in May. Oh yeah- bikes rock.
