This is a nice little training ride of 24 miles out and back. 75% off-road on soft packed trails with two or three small climbs. 25% is on the street.

The hardest part is finding the trail. Drive to the Bronx River parkway till you get to the spilt for Sawmill parkway and the Bronx River parkway. Bear to right and take the Bronx River parkway exit. Go to exit 2, make a left at the stop sign and park somewhere.

The entrance to the trail is opposite the parkway exit. Follow the path to where stops at Entrance to Garth Woods. Cross the street and bear to the right of the parkway. Hop the curb and you're in Garth Woods. Garth Woods puts you out at a sidewalk. Turn left and roll down sidewalk to the corner. At the corner cross the street and bear left in to the woods. (Don't take the overpass) Follow the path down to the river. Bear right at the river, this will point you north, and the river will now be on your left. Follow this path all the way to the wooden bridge, cross the and head up the path to the road. Make a right onto road. PLEASE use CAUTION at this point, the road is a one way for about 10 feet and then becomes a two way. Follow this road to rail station. At the rail station make a left up the edge of the dirt embankment on to the sidewalk just after the overpass. Follow the sidewalk around to the top of the overpass and look for a staircase on your left. Dismount and go down the stairs. The path will change into a small street. Go up a slight hill over the parkway and to the first STOP sign. (Note the big church in front of you.) The entrance to the trail is on your left, marked by a blue sign. Once you get on it, you'll immediately come to a fork. Bear left and continue past the tennis courts. The trail is dirt right now, but will eventually turn to pavement. Follow some curves and duck under some low overpasses until you come to a main road in White Plains. Carefully cross this road and continue straight until you see the continuation of the trail on your left. Shortly after this, you'll enter a parking lot for the Westchester County Center. Go straight through and pick up the trail on the other side. About a mile past this lot, the trail comes to a pedestrian tunnel straight ahead. Make a left, go through another parking lot and turn left again onto the road. Go over a bridge, then make a right back onto the path. (This sounds a lot more complicated than it is!) From here, it's smooth sailing all the way to Kensico Dam Plaza. When you reach the Plaza, you can take a steep red brick trail on the right all the way up to the top. Or you can have a picnic, turn around, and head back to do the southern portion of the trail! .
