Yes friends, the Montauk Century is scheduled for May 18 of this year.
Humble apologies from Glen Goldstein for not updating the 5BBC web page yet.
For those of you unfamiliar with this ride, it is one of the flattest centuries around -- 125 miles from New York to Montauk, Long Island. There are also departures from Queens and from Mineola, Long Island, with slightly different lengths. 5BBC is organizing a series of training rides for those who have never done a century, or are just feeling a little rusty. Sounds like yours truly might even help lead one of the training rides -- God help us all! This century has no official rest stops since the route takes you through suburban areas where there are plenty of food and water opportunities. The ride DOES have excellent SAG support. Once you arrive in Montauk there are showers and an optional BBQ meal. If you want to avail yourself of the showers, you can pack a spare bag of clothes and they'll truck it out to Montauk for you so it's waiting when you arrive! Transportation home is via charter bus -- some bikes go in the bus, the rest go in a truck that follows the bus back to Manhattan, Queens, or Mineola. (No... you can't take the LIRR home. Well, not really. They restrict bikes to I THINK two per car, and unless you get lucky, they will not let you and your 400 cycling friends all board at the same time!) Looking forward to seeing everyone on May 18!
