Bicycling Life, http://www.bicyclinglife.com/ is a web site who's more focused on the interest of promoting cycling as a "normal" means of transportation for every day travel, as well as recreation and healthy exercise. The Site covers issues and concerns across the Nations but is not limited to just the USA. The writers at the site are certainly bicyclist advocates who prefer not to bring any more attention the subject of racing, which is well covered by many other sites.
The Site is divided in to the following section, "News and Views, "Bicycling How-to's", "Practical Cycling", "Touring and Recreation", "Safety Skills", "Effective Advocacy", "Library", and "Links". Plus on the home page has a list of new articles. Within it in the "News and Views" section is "Editorials and Opinions", and "Current Items". The "Editorials and Opinions" section is just what you expect it to be; the "Current Items" section brings you news from around the country that affects the quality and safety of all bicyclists. The "Bicycling How-to's" section provides some basic bicycle service information. The "Practical Cycling" area to help remove the excuses people use for not using the bikes to get around town foe all those common trips. In "Touring and Recreation", a collection of articles and interesting suggestions for how you can get more out of your bike than a ride through the park. Currently this area contains only seven articles. Hopefully the number of articles in this section will grow in time. As a Bicyclist and a Motorcyclist, I feel that safety can never be discussed too much. That's why I was delighted to see the "Safety Skills" section of Bicycling Life jump right in to the issues. In Motorcycle safety class we are taught that the motorcyclist should consider themselves invisible to motorists and to always be on the defensive. One of the most dangerous places for a motorcyclist is large intersection, more than 72% of accidents involving another vehicle and a motorcycle happen at intersections at speeds less than 25 mph. With that said it is no surprise that large intersection are also menacing for bicyclist. Bicycling Life does a good job of taking on the subject and providing usefully information that can save a cyclists life. I was very impressed with the "Educational Resources for Cycling Safety". I am ashamed; I never knew that any State provided bicycling safety information beyond "Wear a helmet if it's not to much trouble". The State of Pennsylvania is an example of what can be produced when somebody cares. Pennsylvania has a State Bicycle Drivers Manual. I think it would be a lifesaver if every school provided students with a few hours of bicycle safety training. Go To Page: 1 2
